Setting up a bluetooth connection on Windows Server 2008

Last week when I was in Redmond I bought myself a wireless bluetooth Microsoft Mobile keyboard and mouse. Back there I connected the devices to my Dell Latitude D630 laptop running Windows 7 and everything worked great.
But back home when I was booting my dual-boot machine in Windows Server 2008 R2 x64 I noticed that the Bluetooth devices did not connect to the laptop. After a small investigation I learned that the bluetooth stack wasn’t loaded and the device wasn’t recognized by the OS.
So I told Windows to find the driver online. It did find the Dell Wireless 360 Module, but it wasn’t working.
So I went to the Dell website to download the lastest drivers…ehhh…for Vista x64. Didn’t think that would help in any way. And it didn’t.
I started googling and came across an interesting article from Microsoft stating that Bluetooth wasn’t supported on Windows Server 2008. I also came across another site where some smart guy claimed that he has the solution. I’m sure it worked for him, but it wasn’t helping me one bit.
Finally I found my solution on this page, but funny enough not in the article itself. It was in the comments. Someone mentioned that you should, how odd this may sound, download and install the Toshiba bluetooth drivers.
So I went to the Toshiba website and downloaded the Bluetooth Stack for Windows by Toshiba(v7.00.10) and installed it. And believe it or not…it worked.
Both my mouse and keyboard connected after the installation and a reboot of the machine.

So my Dell Wireless 360 Bluetooth Module is now running on a Toshiba driver. Hey, as long as it works I don’t have a problem with it.
